Learning Networks is strongly discipline-focused on the basis that academic engagement and entry to learning and teaching takes place primarily through the disciplines.

In 2009 Learning Networks funded the following councils of deans to formulate and implement three-year plans to support quality teaching.
In addition to working on the Learning and Teaching Academic Standards Project (LTASP), in 2010 – 2011 Learning Networks is also investigating ways to strengthen relationships with discipline communities, sector-wide groups and international leadership bodies.
