Project Outcome

The project will give data on the diversity of sessional staff, their numbers and the breadth of their contribution to the sector. It will also make available high-quality resources to be used by institutions, developers and sessional teachers to provide enhanced opportunities for sessional teachers’ recruitment, training and career development.

Project Methodology

The project will use a double iteration of information collation and validity testing, through a triangulation model. This will be carried out with two sets of 8 institutions (representing the sector’s diversity). Progressively refined sets of resources will be produced to enable institutions and developers to self-assess, monitor and evaluate a range of ‘best practice’ policies and practices for the recruitment, induction, training and career development of sessional staff.  The project team will encourage a ‘community of practice’ ethos across the sector, with opportunities to comment on work in progress, through CADAD membership/meetings, a website, and stand-alone and shared meetings. An information leaflet will be sent to all institutions, desktop published resource materials will be available to the sector, and materials will be uploaded for integration into ALTC RIN. There will be a national ‘Sessional Teaching Staff Conference’ to showcase the final materials and illustrate use of the developed benchmark standards.
