Project Outcome

Outcomes of this project will be:

  1. Measurable improvement in scientist?s attitudes toward teaching and learning;
  2. Increased scholarship of teaching and knowledge of science education research among science academics;
  3. Increased capacity for leadership for science teaching by science academics;
  4. A model for exemplary science teaching that can be disseminated, adopted and adapted by other higher education institutions.

 

Project Methodology

This project takes a phased approach.

  1. Literature review of current science teaching initiatives (completed);
  2. Identification of current experts in the field of science and within biological sciences specifically and to promote them as mentors and leaders;
  3. Opening the minds of biologists toward innovations in teaching and learning through conference, workshop and mentoring interactions with their peers who are experts in the field;
  4. Leadership capacity building of those dedicated to science teaching and learning but who are doing so in isolation, by using the conference, workshop and mentoring interactions;
  5. Ongoing mentoring between the built leaders and those requiring assistance in the area of teaching and learning;
  6. Development and formative and summative evaluation of a model for leadership capacity building in science teaching.
