Project Outcome

The purpose of the project is to strengthen institutional leadership capacity to develop and deliver culturally appropriate and relevant Indigenous teaching and learning programs within the participant institutes. This strengthened capacity will encourage academics, students and administrators to change and transform institutional leadership practices, structures and conditions so they can more effectively, advance excellence in Indigenous teaching and learning, generate new knowledge, and serve the community.

Project Methodology

The project will take place over two years in two phases. In the first year, higher education institutions with well-established Indigenous programs in Australia and over seas will complete a workbook, survey containing critically reflective questions that will provide a structure for the first of two Working Seminars to be held Alice Springs. Participants will work collaboratively to develop an Institutional Leadership Paradigm (ILP) for strengthening the leadership capacity of institutions through identification of common values, philosophy and principles. Discussions combined with the workbook reflections will form the major data collection strategy for the project. Each participant will develop activity plans for discussion and distribution of the ILP within their institutions during the second year and report back through the second Working Seminar. Reference groups at both institutional and national level will provide ongoing advice and support and have access to project materials through a document repository and dynamic workspace located on the internet.
