Project Outcome
This project aims to develop and enhance the institutional leadership capacity within RMIT University, by developing leadership in the effective use of student feedback to improve assessment for learning, teaching large classes and general teaching capabilities. Advancement in these areas of practice will result in improvement in the quality of teaching practice, the quality of programs and student learning outcomes and experiences.
The outcomes of the project will be a major report including:
- A distributed leadership framework in the use of student feedback to improve teaching and learning;
- Multi-level approaches and strategies to effect change management;
- Leadership project action and implementation plans for project management; dissemination; evaluation; reporting and benchmarking across the higher education sector nationally and internationally.
Project Methodology
The project uses a broad-based participatory, collaborative approach to leadership capacity building to bring about institutional change. Action learning teams form the core of the activity to respond to and use student feedback to improve assessment practices, teaching large classes and improving teaching capabilities. Leadership capacity for key roles such as Heads of Schools, Program Leaders, Course co-ordinators and Student support leaders will be identified, enhanced and developed through the establishment of communities of practice. Activities such as facilitated reflection sessions, structured professional development and focus group discussions will provide opportunities for interplay between levels of institutional leadership to develop academic leadership in the use of student feedback.
