Project Outcome

This project will develop effective, collaborative, cross-disciplinary leadership frameworks for university learning and teaching which will enhance the professional preparation of the multidisciplinary mental health workforce. A clearing house of curriculum and other professional resources and a network of mental health professionals working collaboratively to overcome barriers to cross-disciplinary education and training for mental health professionals will be established.

Project Methodology

The project team will bring together stakeholders at different levels to ensure that the outcomes are embedded in university teaching and learning practices, field placement experiences in mental health settings and professional associations' standards of education and training. In year one, workshops will be held to identify the barriers and leadership challenges to cross-disciplinary collaboration in education and training for mental health professionals. These workshops will also serve to facilitate structural, distributed and cross-disciplinary leadership. The second year of the project will serve to establish an on-line clearing house of curriculum and other professional resources to assist educators, field placement coordinators and field supervisors in providing students with a cross-disciplinary perspective on mental health service delivery. Leadership development opportunities for educators, field placement coordinators and field supervisors, will be provided to enhance their capacity to lead curriculum change and foster educational collaboration within and across their disciplines. Multidisciplinary mental health field placement networks will also be established.
