Project Outcome
The purpose of this project is to formulate a list of achievement standards for Australian Honours graduates in Archaeology. By project end, a nationally agreed public document, developed collaboratively by all Australian university providers of Archaeology, will be produced and disseminated. The project methodology should be transferable to other disciplines.
Project Methodology
The project plans to achieve this purpose through the design and administration of a benchmarking survey to be carried out with nominees of each institutional provider or 'benchmarking partner'. This survey will form the basis of articulating and, wherever necessary, developing agreed standards for the key degree in Archaeology for either employment as a practicing archaeologist or for the pursuit of a higher degree, the four-year Honours program. The processes of collaborative development and review will be organised and maintained through the formation of three work teams which will, under the general coordination of a project officer, build and maintain commitment to the process, carry out detailed analysis and preparation or liaise with benchmarking partners. Team membership will include academics, students and professional archaeologists. A dedicated WebCT-based project site will be set up for teams to communicate easily with each other, and with benchmarking partners.
