Project Outcome

  1. To provide a greater basis for communication about pedagogy between scholars and industry.
  2. To reinforce the qualities of educational tourism as a robust lifelong learning provider.
  3. To strengthen the role and participation of academia in industry-based pedagogical decision making.
  4. To enhance the learning experience of tourism for tour participants as an academic as well as leisure activity.

Project Methodology

The proposed project adopts qualitative research methodologies. It will consist in large part of initial analysis derived from data gathered in semi-structured interview techniques with academic and travel industry practitioners and through qualitative examination of written tour materials. In a second phase, the researchers will develop models of learning outcome material suitable to both sectors. The project aims to provide a means for interlocutors to determine these together, using the framework produced here. The project thus operates as a case study, with results that will be transferable to other environments in which academics and industry groups must together determine educational outcomes of particular experiential learning activities.
