Project Outcome

The project will advance the development of effective leadership in Australian Higher Education.
It will produce:

  1. an empirically validated leadership capability framework for learning and teaching;
  2. an evidence-based profile of effective leaders in various HE learning and teaching roles;
 

Project Methodology

The project builds on an extensive study of effective leadership in School Education.

A national steering committee and representative reference group from a wide range of universities will guide the project. It will be implemented in the following stages:

  • first a comprehensive study of the empirical literature on effective leadership in Higher Education will be completed.
  • Then focus groups will be used to identify perceptions of an effective leader and to re-calibrate the survey used in the school leadership research.
  • This will be followed by an online survey of academic leaders in a range of roles in the wide range participating universities.
  • Finally a series of national workshops on the results will be held.
Project products will include a report, practical resources, a review of current 360 degree performance tools and a range of short publications on the results.
