Monash University, Victoria
Synopsis
Professor Barkoczy has a long and distinguished teaching career, lecturing in the Faculty of Law (2006 to 2008) and Faculty of Business and Economics (1988 to 2005). Stephen specialises in taxation law, one of the most dynamic and challenging areas of law. He has remained at the forefront of teaching and research in this field in both academia and the legal profession. Stephen is a dedicated and inspirational lecturer who receives outstanding teaching and unit evaluations in some of the largest law subjects. He purposefully blends legal theory with commercial practice to make his subjects more realistic and relevant for students. His teaching is actively led by his broad research and professional activities, and he positively influences tax teaching nationally through his many widely used textbooks. Stephen’s aim is to bridge the gap between university education and legal practice to better equip his students for the challenges which they will face as practising lawyers. His extensive engagement in the legal profession as a consultant with one of Australia’s leading law firms, Blake Dawson, and his broad involvement in law reform make him a potent teacher of future practicing lawyers.
